The story involves a washed-up Irish boxer named Kid Snow who is finally given a chance to redeem himself when he is offered a rematch against the man he fought a decade prior, on a night that changed his life forever. When Kid Snow meets single mother Sunny, he is forced to contemplate a future beyond boxing.
Multiple characters are hit in the face hard enough to get black eyes. One character gets more severe damage, and is seen with a blood-stained bandage over one eye (which another character peels away and reacts to what he sees) and then wears an eyepatch for the rest of the film.
A character's leg is broken in a car accident. The event itself is not depicted; the film skips from just before the accident to long enough after that the leg is as healed as it's ever going to be. (The character does walk with a limp for the rest of the film, and there's a scene where he lifts his trouser leg to show his scarred and bent leg.)
The death of the main character's father occurs early in the film and overshadows what follows. There's also a scene where he talks about his mother dying when he was very young.
Not strictly a toy, but a child's treasured memento is shattered in a scuffle, and he is shown to be upset by its destruction and resentful toward the person who broke it.
One of the main characters has permanent and significant mobility issues following a car accident. He is played by an able-bodied actor (including in two scenes set before the accident).
There is a significant car crash early in the film, with consequences that affect the rest of the plot. The crash itself is not depicted; the film cuts away just as the car goes out of control and it becomes apparent that a crash is about to happen.
The main character drinks frequently and at several points drinks to excess. On the first such occasion, it results in him crashing the car he's driving.
