Suicide is a major theme in this series. At the end of episode 1 Irene writes and narrates a long suicide note, but is interrupted before she can follow through. The letter comes up again in episode 6. In Episode 2, Denise reveals that her dad committed suicide 20 years ago. Episode 7 spends a lot of screentime dealing with that past suicide of a family member, including painful flashbacks of the days leading up to and including the suicide.
