The film follows the rise and fall of the Von Erich family, a dynasty of wrestlers who made a huge impact on the sport from the 1960s to the present day.
This movie contains 55 potentially triggering events.
more neglect than anything - the father never directly physically abused his sons but puts their careers before their emotions constantly which causes extreme distress
The iron claw move involves the wrestler squeezing their opponent's head with their hand; one wrestler is shown bleeding after the move, but otherwise they're fine
When Kevin performs the iron claw on Ric Flair, it looks as though he may be gouging out his eyes because Flair’s hair is covering his eyes and blood is seen. Later Flair comes into the locker room with a bleeding forehead, but unharmed eyes.
Not physically but it could be interpreted that way. SPOILERS
Once David dies fritz asks who will continue his legacy with wrestling and the two brothers argue about who will do it, but in a way thay they want to protect eachtother. They flip a coin and Kerry ends up being the winner and he ends up losing a foot because of this and he also gets extreme mental health issues and kills himself.
The film revolves around the deaths within the Von Erich family. One character is shown taking pills with the intent to overdose and another’s body is seen moments after committing suicide, but the actual moment either die is not shown on screen.
There is a brief hospital scene following a character being injured in the ring. Medical procedures are discussed but not shown— you only see two other characters in the waiting room and the hallway.
there is a subtextual scene of kevin taking his rage caused by depression on PTSD out on another individual, but it is not explicitly due to his mental illness. he is also proven to be capable of change.
spoilers!
one character takes a bunch of pills to intentionally overdose. their death is not directly seen. another character shoots themselves off-screen (the sound is heard) the body is then found with some blood around it. the body is then carried inside where a gunshot wound to the heart can be seen.
No full frontal, but you see men totally nude from behind in the first locker room scene. You see many shots of the Von Erich boys nude except for briefs after sleeping
Unsure why there’s “no” answers. Near the beginning of the film, a character is briefly shown masturbating in the shower (non-explicit, nothing below the waist is seen) for comedic effect. Later, two characters have sex in the back of a truck, though you only hear it as they are only seen as silhouettes. This lasts about a minute.
The male main characters are all told by their father not to cry after their brother dies. At the end of the movie, Kevin cries, and apologizes to his sons as “men don’t cry”. His sons quickly rebuff this by saying they “cry all the time”, and Kevin feels better shortly after.
Three times I remember when blood was shown:
- David throws up some blood (see "Does someone vomit" section)
- Ric Flair bleeds from the head after a match with Kevin
- Some blood is shown after the gunshot suicide
