Evan is heavily characterised as mentally ill. His violence is mostly unintentional and is a result of magic he cannot control, but also some scenes reference standard non magical violence stemming from his difficult upbringing. He is not the only violent character though, all of the misfits are more violent as they are American and dealing with a society that communicates in a strange and condescending way towards them because of this.
