In the Criterion commentary track, they mention that the dead “deer” is actually the body of a dog. They couldn’t purchase a dead deer, so they ended up using a dog instead. Where they got a dog, and whether the dog was already dead, nobody mentions. If anyone has more info about this PLEASE comment!

A dead deer is found on the ground around twenty two minutes in, it is shown upclose for a moment and has a fly or two on it. I wouldn't consider it graphic as you don't see any entrails but their is minor blood.
The deer is shown again a few moments later, not graphic, but shown.
