Yes and no really. Early on in the same place where the original had the dog stuck in the bear trap, that dog is dead in the remake. [SPOILER] Later on however there is another dog stuck in different bear trap in a different zone for the remake that is still alive and able to be saved.
Crows, chickens, pigs, cows, fish, rats, and (mutated) dogs can all be shot and killed. One boss fight requires you to kill a lake monster that resembles a massive salamander.
An enemy type encountered later in the game is the Novistador: large, man-sized flying insects. Some use camouflage so they might jump onto an unexpecting player insome parts of the game. Some infected humans will sprout a parasite that resembles centipede like traits among parasitic tentacles.
One character is found tied up in a sack. Two characters are handcuffed together. Humanoid enemies will frequently restrain the player character during fight sequences, which can result in a game over if the player doesn't react quickly enough. A specific enemy type is chained to a wall.
Some enemies get taken over by parasites that reveal themselves outside the mutilated body of the human. There are knight armour suits with parasitic tendrils.
During one short cutscene, the player character grips a knife by the blade in self-defense. Blood is shown dripping from his fingers, but there are no visible lacerations.
Leon can use a combat knife and other knives found in the game. One boss fight involves an extensive knife fight. *SPOILER* One character gets literally backstabbed.
Multiple main characters have some close calls, but are saved just in time. Enemies can be killed by shooting them off of ledges. Corpses are shown at the bottom of a large spiked pit, apparently having been killed on impact. In the opening cinematic, a character appears to fall to their death, though it is later confirmed that they survived.
The player character has a disturbing vision in which he appears to suffer from some sort of fit. He also loses consciousness multiple times, though he does not visibly seize.
The player character is knocked unconscious at the end of the first chapter; he also faints multiple times later on as a symptom of infection. One brief sequence involves carrying an unconscious/semiconscious NPC to safety. In multiple instances, NPCs are found in an unresponsive state after being captured by the main antagonist. One NPC appears to lose consciousness following an extremely painful medical procedure.
One character dies as a result of aiding others, though calling it a "sacrifice" would be somewhat misleading. In a very literal sense, multiple characters are referred to as "sacrificial lambs," and a specific file mentions drawing lots to sacrifice villagers and animals in a religious ceremony. In an optional scene, bodies can be found near a sacrificial altar.
In addition to enemies being possessed, one friendly NPC is briefly taken over by a hostile force, causing them to attack the player character. The NPC later describes how terrifying it was to have their agency stripped away from them.
After you beat the giant fish monster (in chapter 3) Leon gets sick and vomits blood, you both see it and hear it. It didn't look too bad, but was still pretty gross.
The "Game Over" screen rapidly and irregularly flashes bright red streaks/splotches against a dark background. One particular sequence near the very end of the game involves flashing lights and is meant to feel extremely disorienting.
There is a note inside a section of the castle explaining that the giant insect enemies you encounter were created by impregnating women with insect larvae, but besides that there’s no mention of pregnancy or babies in the game
Las Plagas and Lord Saddler are worshipped by the possessed villagers. There are cult members in special religious clothing throughout the Castle sections.
You could use the Cult’s forced infection of the main characters and their rush to remove the parasites as some type of allegory for abortion, but that’s just my interpretation of the story.
No, but there's a mine cart level where you can crash into barricades if you don't act quickly enough. You can make enemies crash by shooting their carts.
Enemies are decapitated, bisected, stabbed, slashed, shot, etc. A number of gruesome cutscenes can occur with specific player deaths, including impalement with a chainsaw.
The opening cinematic shows a city being destroyed through an explosion, mushroom cloud and all. Much later on, a sizable location is wiped out by a remote bomb.
