part of the protagonist's backstory, as told by him during confession around the half-hour mark, is that when he was 13 he was taken to an adult stranger's house for sex. some of what happened to him is shown - kissing and fully clothed touching. in addition, his wife later tells him on the train how from the ages of 15 to 21 she was raped by a family friend she's still close to and used to call 'uncle'. none of this is shown to the viewer but she describes it during an intimate scene with her husband.
