There are what appear to be real worms used but I would hope none were actually eaten. Having said that, worms aren't the most hardy of creatures and they are used in various settings, many of which would be unnatural to them, so there's a high probability of some not making it. Also, being under the hot lights of the camera for longer lengths of time would definitely adversely effect them.
