A few pet snails die. Two guinea pig pets having sex (I'm not making this up, it's shown in the movie) get squashed by a shelf, as stated above, and one of their "hands" is sticking out of the rubble and a pool of blood grows. A mother pig lives in fear as her babies are regularly taken from her to be killed. We hear one scream off-screen when he dies, and see the pigs trembling whenever someone comes in. Guinea pigs frequently die from neglect in a hoarding situation. Birds are kept crammed in very small cages. All these animals end up being rescued and/or set free.

One finger is severed by accident by a ceiling fan, with blood splattering onto the screen and a bit from the finger and hand itself. Yes, occasionally. A person's finger is accidentally severed by a fan, with blood splattering briefly, including onto the camera. I apologise if I accidentally forgot anything else. In America I believe the R rating lists "some violent content" at the end of the description, and I'm guessing that was it; "violent content" didn't appear in the consumer advice here in Australia, probably because it was an accident, so it fit under "mature themes".
