When Stevie, a baby pangolin, is rescued from death at the hands of poachers in Johannesburg, an investment manager pivots his life to become the animal’s caretaker, teaching him to trust the world again and, in doing so, rediscovers his own purpose. Hand-reared until his release back into the wild, Stevie takes Gareth into his dragon world and together they find freedom and healing in the wild.
there is a “is he dead” moment when the man is digging the pangolin out of a collapsed burrow but the pangolin is completely fine; he gets up and immediately goes to eat :)
there is some allusions to animal trafficking, and an animal is saved in the beginning as well as dug out of a burrow that has collapsed. however, in the end the pangolin is fine!

Kulu comes to them having been abducted. As the previous commenter said, they do release him but I wouldn't consider it abandonment, he is a wild animal.
there is a brief moment where it is unclear whether a burrow collapsing with the pangolin inside has killed the pangolin, but the pangolin is just fine!
There's a lot of footage of burrows, which might be tough. Also Kulu's carrier has holes in kind of an unsettling pattern, but that didnt really bother me.
There are a few times where Gareth climbs into a burrow, which I found tough. the collapsed burrow scene previously mentioned is pretty stressful. there are also several shots of Kulu in his burrow that could be tough to watch.
