Movie • 2013 • Action
ReportPhil Broker is a former DEA agent who has gone through a crisis after his action against a biker gang went horribly wrong and it cost the life of his boss' son. He is recently widowed and is left with a 9-years-old daughter, Maddy. He decides to quit the turbulent and demanding life of thrill for Maddy's sake and retires to a small town. His daughter fights off a boy who was bullying her at school and this sets in motion a round of events that end in his direct confrontation with the local Meth drug lord. His past history with the biker gang also enters the arena, making matters more complex. But he has a mission in his mind to protect his daughter and he is ready to pay any cost that it demands.

This isn’t a very clear example, but I would say that this counts as gaslighting. First, lots of people lie to Broker and, even though he knows it’s a lie, it’s really reminiscent of gaslighting in intimate relationships and could be triggering. Second, (this one not so much) the kid is barely told anything other than “it’ll all be fine”. She knows something is wrong and she knows they’re in trouble but no one explains it to her. It just happens and she’s told over and over that it’ll all be okay.

No children are physically or emotionally abused in the traditional sense but there is clear emotional neglect due to meth addicted parents.

It's not a person but a toy is found beheaded and hung from a tree as a means of intimidation. It's revealed in a way that could suggest a lynching.

No bones are shown to be broken (as in the actual bone) but limbs are shown at weird angles and the noises are heard.

Spoilers
As I’m sure we all can guess, it’s the kid. She’s passed around to a couple of different people but isn’t physically hurt during that time (and it honestly doesn’t last very long compared to the runtime of the movie).

No, but there are comments about Winona Ryder’s character having a ‘sexy tweaker’s body’, she is a thin meth-addict. These may be triggers for some.

Many scenes are filmed handheld, so yes, there is shaky cam. For those sensitive to motion sickness, there are times it is hard to watch.

Lots of calling women b*tches. Including a little girl on more than one occasion. Generally the women in the movie are not spoken to or treated well.

One random scene of two people basically fully clothed having pretty aggressive sex against a car. It’s cut for the shock value and the sounds are pretty loud. Really not sure why it’s there at all.
