There is a dog you can optionally bring aboard your ship, and it cannot die normally. Even if your cargo hold is damaged, it is impossible for it to fall out of your ship. To ensure the best ending for the dog, give it to the researcher character that you meet in the main quest.
The only severe example I can think of occurs in the glowing, blue area later in the game. Resting and fast-forwarding time in this area causes the slow pulsing light in the scenery to become rapid. There are also lightning flashes.
Someone has a sort of split personality, but not in a way that matches up with the medical understanding of DID. It is not described explicitly as DID and has possible supernatural connotations.
The gameplay loop revolves around catching fish for the purpose of consumption, so yes, fish die. On top of typical fishing-related deaths, some fish are shown to be undergoing horrible, torturous mutations that render them either dead or close to death.
The fish you catch die after you catch them. If you hold on to them for too long, they decay in your cargo hold until being reduced to a worthless "rot" item.
Most of the body horror is in the form of some rare fish you catch. Fish with human teeth taking up the majority of their head, heavily decayed but still living fish, etc.
The only real jumpscare in the game is something suddenly rushing at you in the water. It's fairly mild; it is not accompanied by any loud noise and doesn't look particularly frightening.
There is a panic meter in the game, the higher it becomes the more your character hallucinates/has visions on the water. While in this state, merchants will comment on your character seeming sleep deprived and suggest they take a rest.
All depictions of blood and gore are limited to the fish that you find in the game. The artstyle is not very realistic, but the written descriptions can be fairly detailed.
