Mostly played for comedy. A large part of the movie is Dracula trying to get Dennis' vampire powers to come out, and he puts Dennis in life-threatening situations like throwing him off the top of a rickety tower to get him to start flying; Mavis chews out Dracula for this later in the movie. While not shown on-screen and also played for comedy, Dracula's father Vlad gloats about how he used fear to get Dracula to awaken his vampire powers as a child, and makes fun of him for being a late-bloomer.

So many unecessary groin shots in every movie. This isn't funny. This shouldn't be socially acceptable anymore it never should have been. If feminists need a reason: Stuff like this will put women in more danger because when they try something like this they end up getting hurt or killed in real life ...... This isn't cool to begin with. You don't see this happen to women in media, it's extremely sexist and violent and wrong.
