The intent is for the two to have non-consensual sex under the influence so a forced marriage would be arranged. Aware of her plot, Tantai Jin gives the drug meant for Ye Bingchang to Ye Xiwu while taking the other one from Prince Jin; Tantai’s plot to marry her for his own protection is realized. While the two just kiss onscreen, it isn’t revealed to both Ye Xiwu and the audience until EP 7 that no sex had occurred. EP 14: As Ming Ye binge drinks in grief of their broken marriage, Sang Jiu, his wife, approaches him to demand sex before they part ways; Sang Jiu says it’s what’s owed to her, as the couple never consummated their marriage. It is not clear if Ming Ye is completely sober; he shows symptoms of intoxication before the discussion; regardless, Sang Jiu physically incapacitates him and tells Ming Ye she will have sex whether he is willing or not. Ming Ye appears to reciprocate and initiate intimacy in the following scene, and after, does not share any feelings besides regret that the couple’s marriage will be concluded. Both characters are in love with each other but have been manipulated by another person to prevent them from realizing their feelings are mutual. ⚠️
