Colonel Brinkley is a criminal who has been with the map of where the treasure is the Silver Lake. Winnetou and Old Shatterhand come again towards goodness, but along the way will encounter enemy tribes they will face.

As the film is based on a book by an author who only knew the west from books, both in the original novel and the film, different aspects of several Native American cultures are combined into one and the native characters speak in broken speech patterns. Also, since it's a Yugoslavian-West German co-production shot in Croatia, there is a fair amount of redfacing. Other than that, the native characters are actually more positive and better developed than usual at that time.
