Virgil Oldman is a world renowned antiques expert and auctioneer. An eccentric genius, he leads a solitary life, going to extreme lengths to keep his distance from the messiness of human relationships. When appointed by the beautiful but emotionally damaged Claire to oversee the valuation and sale of her family’s priceless art collection, Virgil allows himself to form an attachment to her – and soon he is engulfed by a passion which will rock his bland existence to the core.

It's also briefly mentioned that her parents didn't believe her at first when the agoraphobia started, but they did when it kept happening. _____________I have a similar condition and I felt the agoraphobia was depicted realistically. However (this is more about it's use in the film, and it's tricky because I feel I should warn anyone considering watching it who also has mental illness, especially agoraphobia, but it will also ruin the whole plot of the movie so be aware if you read ahead): ****MASSIVE SPOILERS****: it's revealed at the end that she was wasn't mentally ill and was pretending to have agoraphobia all along in order to steal
