No, but there are a couple other scenes that may be of concern: ➊ EP 6: insinuated attempt; man shown pushing and pulling a woman. Her cloak is tossed away from her but the removal of the outerwear is not shown. No other touching is involved, and intentions of person are only hinted at and not explicitly identified. In the succeeding standoff, another character falsely encourages the man to lure him into a fight. ➋ EP 20: a character jokingly calls for help from ”indecent assault” (非礼啦) in an attempt to avoid a tense conversation. ➌ EP 34: man begins to approach a woman he believes is already married; intercepted by another person before harassment becomes physical.

Marking affirmatively as a precaution; see domestic violence section for most relevant details. An argument can be made for some emotional neglect by the protagonist’s mother; the two have a relationship, complicated by trauma and misunderstandings, that leaves both characters regretful and desiring more out of their connection. The dynamic of this family is explored throughout the series but the mother/daughter relationship specifically is not the focus of the story.

No, but other head and neck injuries occur, especially during battle scenes, where a person may be hit (non-graphic; audio gore for some incidents). The following examples may be a bit more bothersome: ➊ EP 3, 7:50 to 8:26: A character receives a head injury, and while contact isn’t shown, there is audio gore. The wound is shown after, but is just blood. ➋ EP 5, 23:27 to 23:37: full motion not shown, but death via broken neck implied with sound. ➌ EP 7, 25:45 to 25:55: on-screen, visually non-graphic, fatal head injury with audio gore. ➍ EP 8, 13:10 to 13:36: fatal head injury from small stone; wound shown on screen. ➎ EP 9, 45:30 to 45:50: death from broken neck or head injury implied with sound. ➏ EP 20, 17:38 to 17:48: on-screen hit to the head. ➐ EP 24, 28:06 to 28:23: flashback to scenes in EPs 8 and 9 mentioned above. ➑ EP 30, 43:35 to 43:42: hit to head with large rock. ➒ EP 40, 42:08 to 42:18: large bruise on face and spitting up of blood after person receives two head injuries. ➓ EP 49, 14:55 to 16:50: no head injuries, but multiple people are implied to have died in a cavern collapse.

Mild blood. Wounds are typically non-graphic, usually just blood with no broken skin. Blades sometimes have blood but more often are shown clean. Cuts to the body are represented with lined swipes of blood, and majority of other wounds leave no visible evidence, including broken bones or tears in clothing where people are mortally harmed. Overall, the series is significantly less explicit with wounds than Western programs. Please see other sections for specific injuries to check for any notable exceptions to the norm. ➊ ⁕⁕⁕ 【 ACID CW 】 | EP 11, 12:24 to 14:13: 放毒水(poisoned water) is used, burning the skin of several individuals and melting their accessories. While contact is shown, the wounds are only depicted as an after effect (close-up shot). ⁕⁕⁕ ➋ EPs 24, 25, 26, 51 include mostly battle scenes, so the wounds are slightly more graphic than usual. ➌ EP 40 also has a lot of violence that is slightly more graphic than usual: ⓐ ⁕⁕⁕ 【TRYPOPHOBIA CW】 | 9:00 to 9:20: skin damage from poison (CGI). ⁕⁕⁕ ⓑ 44:45 to 45:40: person stabbed multiple times with blood; on-screen neck wound. Another character is stabbed, with sword shown piercing body. ➍ EP 41, 1:33 to 3:28: person with several internal and external injuries has a drawn out and painful death; lots of blood.

There are other cases of flashing lights or images (from rapid fight scenes) in the series, usually related to single fireworks or brief explosions. Bursts of light are used to signal when the occasional flashback begins or ends.

➊ EP 6, 16:00 to 16:26: brief discussion of how remaining anonymous in a profession has lead to misinterpretations of a character’s gender and age. ➋ EP 6, 32:30 to 32:52: snide remark from child on expectations regarding emotional expression for men. ➌ EP 16, 10:08 to 10:53: two characters trade insults; one calling the other 小白脸 (“little white face”), which, in this scene, is a comment about a man refraining from combat while his companion, a woman, fights, as well as the character’s appearance. This person in turn draws attention to an article of clothing the other man is wearing, which was originally designed for a woman. ➍ EP 19, from 14:26 to 18:55, a woman character is given feminine clothing to wear without her permission; she is complimented on her change in appearance and teased for her discomfort (goes as far to cover face in public). Outfit shown until 24:04. ➎ EPs 19 to 21: woman disguises self as man to deter potential abductors. No misgendering in Chinese, but ENG subs use “he/him” in EP 20 at 17:48, and the character is discovered at 17:52 (to skip entire confrontation, jump to 18:35). Identity revealed again in EP 21 with gendered terms (她/she, 姑娘/miss) between 24:56 and 25:38). ➏ EP 27, 31:30 to 31:38: gender disparaging insult towards a man with an illness. ➐ EP 29, 13:00 to 13:10.

★ A character has a chronic illness that limits his ability to participate in combat, and he is often mocked or misunderstood (the character’s health being undisclosed for some time to both the audience and other characters). For example, in EP 16, this person is called 小白脸 (“little white face”) to draw attention to his inactivity during a fight (especially because the person who is fighting is a woman; see section above about misgendering). ➊ From EP 7 to 12, a character is introduced whom others refer to as “insane,” “crazy,” and “mad” (English translations; Chinese 疯) in multiple scenes. They are frequently dismissed as irrational or a liar, and are treated with disrespect. This language is used throughout the series. ➋ Potentially some implicit ableism through the characterization of villains: for example, one loses an eye and wears a patch, and others have prosthetic limbs that are depicted as both an asset and a weakness in combat. In EPs 11 and 51, a prosthetic is focused on significantly more and eventually removed in an attempt to hinder the character during combat (EPs 11 & 51). ➌ EP 12: self disparaging comments regarding “usefulness” (废人). ➍ ⁕⁕ On YouTube, 傻子 has been translated into English as the r-slur in EP 19 (31:15 to 31:20); may be used elsewhere in the series for this streaming platform. ⁕⁕ ➎ EP 27: gender disparaging insult towards a character with an illness. ★ Many of the characters killed are older adults (60+).

Perhaps being overly cautious here, but there is a character that is heavily implied throughout the series to have romantic feelings towards another person of their gender. The exact fate of this character is not disclosed, but they discuss severe internal injuries with no cure and resolve to die in EP 40. [I currently do not have access to the novel to confirm this person’s canonical gender or romantic/sexual identity.]

Through the series, acupuncture needles are used often, mostly as a weapon to poison others but also as a means of regulating energy or promoting a reaction of abilities in the body. Application of needles is usually on screen, and in most cases, the point of contact is covered by clothing. However, there are situations where the needles are suggested to have been internally inflicted.

While there is no malicious language or actions applied against any minoritized communities, there are derogatory words used. “Dog” (狗) is used often starting EP 12 (狗屁 in EP 15). There are occasional comments made (English translation) that are ageist both to younger and older people, and the gender roles/expression of both women and men are discussed throughout the series (ie: women don’t want weapons as gifts, “real” men don’t cry, etc). There are a couple cases of blatant misogyny (ie: comparison of women to men as weaker/女流).

➊ EP 34: woman character is followed by a man with whom she shares a short, but complicated history with. This person means to protect her, going so far as to maim (off-screen) a person who harasses her, but he hides his identity due to the impression that his presence would cause her discomfort. ➋ EP 40: kidnapping occurs between the aforementioned people in order to collect confidential knowledge. ★ There are scenes where characters watch or listen to others without their awareness, usually to gather intel. This often occurs as one lead eavesdropping on the other in the first part of the series; while it is not done maliciously, obsessively, or possessively, and the other person is not bothered by it upon finding out, it may still be concerning to some viewers. Additionally, much of the series involves the pursuit of the protagonist parties by antagonist groups, with attempted kidnapping, assassination, etc.

No; however, in EP 42 from 31:51 to 38:22, one character pretends to consider the marriage proposal of another person while in a relationship. This begins in jest to tease the character’s partner, but there is some self-doubt and worry over circumstances related to the situation from the partner. Additionally, the person proposing is toyed with and made fun of for several minutes before being told the truth.

The protagonist does have scenes of binge drinking, starting out as recreational but usually progressing into a way for the character to cope with or hide her feelings: ➊ EP 6, 41:48 to 43:55: drinking quickly while discussing topics that cause a character to feel sad. Drinking continues until end of episode. ➋ EP 7, beginning until 3:40: picks up from the previous scene. Symptoms of drunkeness become increasingly obvious, and a character passes out. Character is drunk up to 5:05. ➌ EP 12, 10:05 to 10:35: Companion suggests that the character slows their drinking; coping with grief. Drinking ends at 11:43, then happens again from 13:29 to 13:37. ➍ EP 18, 30:20 to 32:19: begins drinking more heavily out of embarrassment. ★ Leisurely drinking and consumption of alcohol with meals is common. Chronic and terminal illness resulting from poisoning is a significant issue throughout this series. A lead character is affected in this manner, and their health begins to decline from EP 26 onwards; this becomes a major focus of the plot. The character does recover, but there are two major scares in EP 50 before the well-being of this person is clear.
