Rusty talks to his therapist about his father's infidelity when he was a child and vowed never to do that to his wife/family. However, he had a sexual/emotional affair with his colleague Carolyn Polhemus who was murdered at the start of the episode. The episode shows evidence of their affair. This becomes problematic during the investigation of who murdered Carolyn, as Rusty wanted to be the primary person on her case. Autopsy/pathology reports show that Carolyn was pregnant at the time she was murdered.
