The entire sequence of events leading up to the rape is shown, but the crime itself is not described in any detail. Rather, the character dissociates from the situation entirely, and the chapter ends there.

It's implied through the book, but from Chapter 38 onward, it's explicitly stated and (kinda) shown. A character was sexually assaulted by their stepbrother as a minor, and while the act itself is never shown, it's presented in a fade-to-black matter in a section called "NYC", between the end of Chapter 38 and the start of Chapter 39. Several characters express their disapproval of the stepbrother's actions. The character ends up getting a temporary restraining order against him.

It's suspected by people at first that Mother was pedophilic towards the Wild Girls, but this is explicitly mentioned to be false.
There is a scene between a character and their assaulter/stepbrother, where the character points out they have a seven-year age gap. The character is 16 in this scene (and also in the rest of the book), making the assaulter 23.
