For the past 60 years, a space-traveling smart-ass named Paul has been locked up in a top-secret military base, advising world leaders about his kind. But when he worries he’s outlived his usefulness and the dissection table is drawing uncomfortably close, Paul escapes on the first RV that passes by his compound in Area 51. Fortunately, it contains the two earthlings who are most likely to rescue and harbor an alien on the run.
This movie contains 33 potentially triggering events.
First scene - a spaceship crash-lands in a field, accidentally killing a dog that was watching it. The scene cuts away, so we don't see the actual impact or aftermath; however, the incident is mentioned later in the movie.
A female character gropes a male character without consent. Later two men are about to assault the female character before they both get beaten up. One instance of the word rapist is used as an anxious joke and it's clear nobody finds it funny.
There’s a bit of blood shown on the spaceship but nothing else. This character is the main villain and also uses homophobic slurs, though, so her death is satisfying.
During a car chase, Bill Hader's character drives off a cliff. We see the car and hear the scream but the inside of the car as it happens, and the car after it has crashed, are not shown. A few seconds afterwards, there is an explosion at the landing site, which is shown from a distance.
At the end there is one scene with lots of blood and a few wounds, one of which is shown graphically, but it is a fairly typical bullet wound and is healed. A similar wound spontaneously appears on Paul's chest before vanishing as he heals the character who has been shot. Earlier on, a dead bird is eaten (very brief and quick, no blood - all in one bite). These are the only gory scenes.
The lead character Clive wets himself when he faints after seeing the alien for the first time. It’s used for comedy and his friend says “he has a child’s bladder”.
Nobody dies by suicide but Paul is willing to risk his life and does actions that he knows may result in his death to save another character (Paul survives).
The f slur, repeatedly. And the use of queer in a derogatory manor. Also in a scene where paul tries asking if clive is gay he makes gestures implying to gay sex while moaning exaggeratedly and making fart sounds.
