Sally and Gillian Owens, born into a magical family, have mostly avoided witchcraft themselves. But when Gillian's vicious boyfriend, Jimmy Angelov, dies unexpectedly, the Owens sisters give themselves a crash course in hard magic. With policeman Gary Hallet growing suspicious, the girls struggle to resurrect Angelov -- and unwittingly inject his corpse with an evil spirit that threatens to end their family line.
This movie contains 32 potentially triggering events.
A woman is hit and choked by her boyfriend. Her face is cut/bruised from previous off-screen abuse. He heats his ring with a lighter and attempts to brand her.
In particular, belladonna is used against the antagonist, who is eventually given a lethal dose. In another scene, the witches are taking turns drinking and it is clear that they are using more than alcohol, as they keep blurting out candid opinions and insults, then giddily laughing.
Implied but not shown. It can be inferred that Jimmy has forced Gillian into sex, or made her too scared to say no, when she confesses that she has to drug him in order to get some sleep.
I can’t totally recall but I think there’s also at least one on-screen kiss where Gillian is clearly uncomfortable.
there is some gore but not excessive, in one scene the ghost touches a police badge and it leaves a star shaped scar on his hand there isnt any bleeding from it.
It's a large part of the story that there is a curse on the male partners of the witch family causing them to die. Only one parent's death is shown, others are historical
Long (maybe 8-inch) needles are used for spells. One is used to stab a pigeon just off-screen. Two more are meant to be stabbed through the eyes of a corpse and are held near the eyes, but no eye mutilation actually takes place.
Not in the traditional sense, but there are a couple instances of palm cutting - first to make a blood pact and again to call upon it for a spell. May be disturbing to some or considered unsafe for young kids.
