"Verwurzelt" is an exploration of familiar intimacy and familial complexity within Russian-German narratives. The trilogy was created from interviews about the migration and expulsion of Germans from the Soviet Union that Michelle Hanselowski recorded with her grandparents. The films relate to her grandparents' childhood, in which they built a deeper relationship with their mothers through agricultural work and experienced beautiful moments in a rooted reality.
