In 1970s England, three blue-collar friends spend their days joking, drinking, fighting and chasing girls. Freddie wants to leave their working-class world but cool, charismatic Bruce and lovable loser Snork are happy with life the way it is. When Freddie gets a new job as a door-to-door salesman and bumps into his old school sweetheart Julie, the gang are forced to make choices that will change their lives for ever.

No, but there is a clear power imbalance in a married couple's relationship. He is the absolute boss and barely notices her, while she basically spends her life tiptoeing around him, serving him tea, calling him "dear" and trying not to make a noise. Like a character says about her "She's had all the life sucked out of her; she's like a ghost". At one point toward the end, her husband asserts his perceived authority over his daughter and her supportive mother, and the mother stands up to him for the first time on both of their behalves. It's a triumphant moment, and we don't see the couple again after that.

Not exactly. No heroes. One decent guy is a policeman, but we see him from more of a personal angle, because it's a small town where pretty much everybody knows each other, and he's someone's father's best friend. Another policeman smacks a young guy in the face for no legimate reason and doesn't come across likeable on the whole.

No, but "half-caste". And a white guy calls a black woman a monkey (she doesn't hear it). There are quite a lot of racist remarks/discussions in the movie - mostly of the smalltown, "oldfashioned" kind that comes from extreme ignorance due to lack of "exposure" to other races (one character says "I saw one in the supermarket!", referring to a black person) plus fear of immigration ("They're taking our jobs" and "You don't have to go to Africa to see them; they're all coming here"). No black person in the movie is seen directly experiencing racism.

No, but I want to mention that a young man climbs in through a young woman's window late at night without consent or any kind of warning. They're not a couple, only acquaintances, and he's never done it before. She reacts as if he just walked up to her in the street in full daylight, seemingly unsurprised and happy to see him.

I actually don't think so, although you'd expect precisely that from a movie like this one. However, a young man despises his father for not having fought physically to get his wife back when she left him for another, accuses him of being a doormat and mocks him for what he perceives to be all-round weakness (the father is too sick to work and spends his time drinking beer in his couch). That young man's conception of masculinity and violence is one of the movie's themes.
