A single-camera half-hour comedy based on what Maria Bamford has accepted to be "her life." It's the sometimes surreal story of a woman who loses — and then finds — her s**t.
S1E5: In a fantasy sequence, a character aims a gun at dogs and a gunshot is heard. S1E9: Someone mentions a dog dying. S1E11: A pug is found dead after it ate pills out of a trash can. S1E12: A shelter employee says he drowns dogs. S2E1: Mention of a dog nearly being put down.
S1E5: A character threatens to hit a dog with a baseball bat. Nothing is depicted. S1E9: A woman slaps a dog across the face (no visible injury). S2E2: Mention of a dog escaping from an abusive owner and finding a woman who took better care of him. No abuse depicted and no specificity as to what the former owner did. S2E5: A goat bleats as a stabbing sound is heard. The goat was already paralyzed in the back leg where it was stabbed, so it experienced no pain.
S1E10: A man mentions being chased by his father with a knife. S2E4: A man mentions his dad being an alcoholic who threw knives at him. S2E7: Children on TV are shown being forced to dance for hours. They are not allowed to use the bathroom and are said to be field laborers.
S2E4: Maria kisses a boy who turns out to be her cousin. Her mom encourages her to maintain the sexual tension in order to preserve the chemistry in their coupled Roller Jam routine. Another character engages in a very sexual Roller Jam routine with her brother. S2E5: A brother and sister are shown making out.
S1E6: Mention of a man killing himself with a gun. S1E9: Mention of a dog "putting himself down" with a gun/pills the owner put in his crate. Someone gives a suicidal psychiatric patient the option to be killed by her dog. S1E10: A man mentions his mom's suicide attempt. S2E7: A news report mentions a man hanging himself in a motel.
S1E1: A character has a bloody hand from trying to deck out a motorized scooter. S1E2: A commercial depicts someone being attacked with an axe and somebody stabbing his own neck. S1E6: An eye is punctured. Two characters have blood drawn.
S1E10: In a fantasy sequence, several black-and-white images flash in rapid succession for about five seconds (13:25). S1E12: Flickering fluorescent light. S2E8: Harsh flashing of various scenes.
S1E12: A character using a gym machine unsafely has his arms jerked upwards. Snapping is heard, but the arms seen are very obviously fake. S2E3: A lighting fixture falls on someone's leg, resulting in the bone piercing through her leg and a lot of (unrealistic) blood. S2E4: A character falls from a building and crunching is heard. S2E7: A bone is heard crunching.
S1E6: A character has pancreatic cancer. She appears healthy and is not showing signs of pain, though she does make jokes about her financial situation and her body hurting.
S1E2: A man cheats on Maria as well as his boyfriend, feeding into the stereotype of bisexual people being cheaters. The show explicitly critiques this portrayal in S2E4, and Maria (producer and lead actress) calls herself "a dirty bird" for letting that slide.
