Bianca, a marriageable young lady from a good family in the Italian Renaissance period, is promised to Giovanni, a young, rich merchant. The marriage is agreeable, but Bianca can't hide her disappointment at having to marry a man she barely knows. However, she learns a new secret that opens up her world: her family is in possession of a costume (of sorts) known as a "man's skin". By putting it on, Bianca becomes "Lorenzo" and benefits from the freedom afforded a young man of astonishing beauty. She can now experience the world of men incognito and get to know her fiancé in his natural habitat. Dressed in her man's skin, Bianca not only gains freedom, but also discovers love and sexuality.
