I can't believe no one is bringing up the hatecrime Leo went through. Which honestly I don't mind dark scenes but for such a PG book with no sexual content or innuendo it comes across as shock value and no warning(the foreshadowing there is is extremely vague).

That being said, I will warn you. Leo is hatecrimed. I think it's safe to assume it's also sexual assault as leo is tied to a tree, and with boys who cut through his clothing while yelling. They are described as getting excited as they cut through each layer. Leo is never completely exposed. His bottoms/pants stay on and the boys never completely cut through his binder. No one sees his chest and an adult intervenes before anything worse happens. No groping or touching happens. But Leo was baited into the woods under the assumption the girl who baited him wanted to be somewhat intimate.

Anyways, it's a meh book and a warning would have been nice.

Lots of it. Even another trans character and the narrative itself constantly misgender trans girl Kate (usually called by her birth name David), even after she comes out.
