Kumatora, a character implied to be in her mid to late teens, disguises herself as a club waitress for three years. During this time, several men call her "baby" and comment on her looks.
Alec is implied to be rather forgetful and is eventually placed in a care home. In a scene in Tanetane detailing Lucas's fears if Duster is not in the party, Alec shows signs of extreme dementia which may be interpreted as Lucas fearing Alec's condition getting worse- so while not stated it IS implied.
Somewhat – both parents of the main character neglect the main character in one way or another. There's no concious choice of "abandoning" but there's definitely a level of neglect for one reason or another
(SLIGHT SPOILERS FOR BOTH MOTHER 2/EARTHBOUND AND MOTHER 3) As was said on the Earthbound DTDD page, the main villain Porky comes from an abusive household and over the course of the game becomes manipulative and a bully. That abuse isn't mentioned in Mother 3, but if you do have that extra context it would fit this category.
An area in the game called Tanetane Island, which shows the worst fears and insecurities of the main characters, has a scene in which a character's father attempts to beat them.
(NO SPOILERS) An area in the game called Tanetane Island includes a scene in which it is heavily implied that the main characters consume a hallucinogenic drug and experience frightening and emotionally traumatizing (for the characters) hallucinations.
Aside from the numerous animals who are experimented on, during Chapter 3 the main character is a monkey who gets repeatedly electrocuted by his owner.
Mahor Spoiler: The chimera Mecha Dragon dies at the end of its battle. Its child tries to protexf it, it eventially sheds a tear as ot dies before its child.
No, but there's a visual gag in chapter 4 where 2 characters are in a hot spring together and the screen cuts to black while showing dialogue like "Just endure it" and "Don't struggle". Once the screen comes back it's shown that the other character was simply being held underwater the whole time.
There's a simple puzzle where you run into a stature holding a large steel ball, if you run into it from the telegraphed wrong side it falls on the player, while it's shown there are no sprites for them getting crushed, and cuts to the game over screen after, it's vaugely comical
In the first chapter, a character is hit over the head with a large piece of wood and is knocked unconcious. There's also a number of other times where characters go unconcious, the only other example I can think of being when your team washes up onto an island.
(MILD SPOILERS) There is a character who is under the influence of mind control, and it is described in a way similar to possession. No demons or other supernatural entities are involved, however.
The ghost of a deceased parent makes an appearance multiple times. The player must go through a haunted mansion-themed map, though the ghosts in it are not depicted as frightening and are seen having a casual party in another room.
There's no shower scene, but you do have to enter a hot spring to heal your party multiple times throughout the game, and a mandatory cutscene also involves a hot spring.
There is a laboratory used for splicing animals/various stuff together but there is no medical institution in the game with the purpose of housing/studying/torturing/helping people with mental illnesses. There's also a shoddy nursing home but that's also different from a mental institution/psychiatric ward.
the main villain certainly has some aspects of being mentally unwell and ... hes the main villain. its nothing too striking but it could make some players who have experienced young childhood trauma uncomfortable.
Every time there's a lightning strike or the shock collar in chapter 3 is used, the screen shakes. Every time a needle is pulled in chapters 7 and 8, the screen shakes for 10-15 seconds. There's a late-game attack you can learn called PK Ground that causes an earthquake that shakes the screen. The ending cutscenes include lots of screen shaking.
(SPOILERS) There are brief instances in chapters 1 and 4 where the game will ask for the player's name. After the ending cutscenes, the characters have a sort of heart-to-heart with the player and thank them
Further context: while the above-mentioned transgender-coded characters are allies to the main cast, other characters occasionally make rude comments about them. They are also referred to with different pronouns by different characters, but their pronoun preference is never stated in-game.
A group of mythical characters who may be transgender-coded each give their spirits to the land to help the player character. It does not explicitly say that they are dead, moreso just not present, but players may wish to keep it in mind regardless.
There is a scene where a vehicle crashes, but it is treated very humorously (heavily delayed reaction of onlooker, no one in the vehicle is seriously injured)
There is an area of the game where the player has to navigate an undersea area while maintaining their oxygen levels. It is possible to run out of air, in which case the main characters will wash up onto the shore instead of dying.
