Also, the player characters Oddsock and Swoop, who resemble a dog and a bird respectfully, can "die" from the many hazards in levels. They can respawn a few times before you have to restart the level, as is standard for platformer games. And one of the boss fights is against a giant octopus.

No, but there was a horrible instance of a transphobe hacking the servers for at least one of the previous games and replacing much of the text with transphobic hate speech (targeted at a specific woman). This led to the dev team shutting down the servers for all LittleBigPlanet games other than the PS4 version of this game.
