A army veteran discovers an abandoned boy lurking in the woods behind her childhood home. After taking in the boy, she searches for clues to his identity, and discovers local folklore about a malevolent life-draining spirit that comes in the form of a child: The Tatterdemalion.

There’s a scene of the woman in a bar and then she leaves with someone. After the main woman gets out of a mans truck she v* on the ground and you can see a bit of it as he pulls her hair back.
Dog runs away and she hardly looks for it before taking in some random kid and giving up. Upsetting. Pathetic. Not necessary as usual. Never useful in the plot.
The boy found in the woods is said to have been badly a* by his parents, especially father and he does have bruising on his ankle from a chain in one of the first scenes.
