Wander Over Yonder

TV Show • 2013 • Animation

Report
The adventures of Wander, an eternally-optimistic intergalactic traveler and constant do-gooder, and his quick-tempered but loyal steed and best friend, Sylvia. The friendliest face in outer space, Wander journeys across the galaxies to spread good cheer and to help anyone he can — much to his overly pragmatic stallion’s chagrin. Their fun-loving escapades often lead them to clash with the evil villain Lord Hater and his army of Watchdogs, who travel from planet to planet trying to make hate the order of the day. Together, the best friends travel through the cosmos, happening upon one freewheeling adventure after another and making new friends and foes.

Lord Dominator is seen to be incredibly manipulative towards Wander, Sylvia, and Lord Hater throughout the series. However, the show does a surprisingly good job of handling this. For example (SPOILERS) in the episode the night out Lord Dominator befriends Sylvia and convinces her to do a couple of bad things but when Sylvia refuses to do anymore because it’s making her uncomfortable Lord Dominator gets angry and says, “Friends are supposed to do what you tell them to”, and Sylvia immediately corrects her by saying , “That’s not what friends do. Friends help each other out but they’re still there own people.” Any time the show displays bad behavior like Lord Dominators it is quick to address the severity of the issue.

"The Night" has an especially scary scene involving bugs - it is played for laughs as one of the bugs keeps talking about forgetting things for her night out but will still be scary if you have a fear of insects!

No, the only mention of cannibalism is in the ball when the planet’s leader says, “ How does one fight off cannibals? With some kinda pointy stick I assume”, as a passing joke.

Lord Hater's head explodes in "The Good Bad Guy", but it's cartoon violence. Characters will sometimes be squashed by things but end up fine afterward, no gore or blood

Characters end up fine and the violence is cartoony, but there are a few instances where characters appear to have a bent hand/foot/etc from hitting something or having something fall on them

Wander's sentient hat is tortured in "The Bad Hatter", it can be upsetting to watch. Lord Hater will often electrocute other characters as well

"The Heebie-Jeebies" has multiple jumpscares, with an especially big one right at the end. The ending animatic for "The Pet" is also a jumpscare.

There are various episodes in which Lord Hater v*, but is never explicit, it's always behind some sort of object, so no visuals, but they have sound. Not triggering for me though.

Some episodes are:

The Breakfast; almost at the end, after Hater reads Wander's letter.

The Date; right after Hater gets off the feris wheel (not shown, heavily implied visual-wise, with the background song saying it)

The Best Friend; After Hater tries the "food" that Wander gathered for him.

Throughout the series the main characters are shown panicking (usually mildly) but an episode I’d skip if this is a stressful point for you is the box. In this episode Wander is seen to be so anxious that he displays Trichotillomania.

There are very brief scenes of characters in tiny spaces (like a tiny bubble) but they never express discomfort and the scenes aren’t presented in a anxiety inducing way.

In "The Ball," Wander takes control of an escape ship without explaining why, and steers it back to where it came from. Everyone else thinks he is suicidal. He crash lands the ship. Everyone is safe, and when he explains his plan now it is clear he did not intend to hurt anyone.

The style of the show itself uses very bright colors and flashing lights to display movement. I’d specifically avoid any episodes with partying (for the strobe effect) such as the party animal and the rager.

Some of the characters that present male will wear dresses and get hit on. (This isn’t done as a gag it’s brought up several times in the series even going as far as having the show outwardly state that it’s a part of Wander’s personality) Also Lord Dominator is assumed to have male pronouns for a large part of the series but even refers to herself fluidly in the song the bad guy. Nevertheless, all of the characters are ok with the fluid use of pronouns.

There are several explosions throughout the show that resemble nuclear explosions. But the one that is the most prominent would be in the big job where Sylvia and Wander assume they are trying to deactivate a reactor.
