There is ambiguous wording around the capture of a female characters implying that she's been "eaten up" and "soiled" physically, but potentially sexually as well.
During profiling segments, images will flash rapidly on-screen, there is lightning in parts of the game, no precautions were taken to make this game friendly towards those prone to seizures.
not on screen or condoned. the villain groomed at the very least one underage girl, who is an adult at the time of the game. he also pursued another underage (now adult) character, who successfully turned him down
When losing in combat against the zombie-like enemies of the game, they will force themselves down the player character's throat, resulting in a game-over.
there is a transgender woman who only comes out at the end of the game. she is in an antagonistic role, but is portrayed deeply sympathetically and with nuance to the point that she cannot be considered a villain. the main issue is that when she does come out, though, it's so muddled that i've seen some people confused as to whether or not she's a woman, in part because she is misgendered after her death. the creator has said that he intended her to be transgender, but didn't know much about the subject at the time and definitely made mistakes. in short: she is a fantastic character in my opinion, but good trans representation she is not
unclear? a woman (offscreen, before the story) has is in a sex cult with both men and women. while it is easy to assume from that that's she is bisexual, it's never textual if she's attracted to the other women or if she only participates with the man
There are "Other World" segments, in which zombie-like enemies and other supernatural elements are present. While it is not hell, it is implied to be another realm entirely. There are demon-like entities in the game as major antagonists.
A sidequest character ("Roaming Sigourney") with demented mannerisms is constantly wandering with a pot, demanding you drive her places before it cools. It is implied that there is nothing in the pot, and that she is out of her mind.
Opening cutscene briefly features a white snake that wraps around a murder victim's torso, but disappears into the tree she is hung from and is never seen for the rest of the game.
Main character is kidnapped and restrained with rope and a bag over his head, female character is kidnapped and restrained with rope, scene of a woman restrained in a bathroom with an elaborate torture contraption.
all of the victims overdose on fictional drugs, although they die from other injuries. the drugs are forced on them rather than taken on purpose. they aren't realistic (they look like red seeds and are eaten)
the more prominent cheating accusations turn out not to be true, but one of the victims (becky) is cheating on her boyfriend. he never finds out before her death, and it isn't emphasized
There are zombie-like humans that plague the combat sections of the game, as well as the visions of multiple murder victims presenting themselves to the main character.
Depending on your interpretation of the plot, a major character is revealed to have been under the influence of some sort of benevolent spirit or guardian angel.
A major scene (autopsy) occurs in a hospital, there is a hospital combat area, and the main character wakes up in the hospital after the climax of the game's events.
There are many instances of throat clearing and sniffling. Just a few off the top of my head are:
- At the beginning of the speech at the town hall
- During Fiona's side quest, right before she begins her quiz
- During the profiling at the lumber mill
- One of the lunch scenes at the police station (the one where they're all gloomy)
- When Quint is crying outside a mansion
the most prominent death by suicide occurs, not because they want to die, but to sacrifice themselves for another. the second is up for debate as to whether it's on purpose or an accident, i've seen equally compelling arguments for both
a little bit. a character was abused by their mother, who had a vague unspecified mental illness. a different character implies this to be the cause of the abuse, but it's not clear if we should take him at his word
the villain makes kind of a crack about a transgender woman, but the audience aren't supposed to be on his side. while her portrayal is clumsy, it's never intended to be funny
the nos are likely because the trans character is portrayed in a very muddled way, and it's easy to assume that she is just a crossdresser. but yes, she was intended to be a trans woman, and she is misgendered after she comes out
a trans character is killed. some of the victims canonically slept with other women, but it's unclear if it was because they were actually attracted to women or if it was because they were just in the same sex cult
no idea what the nos are talking about. one of the villains is fat, and that aspect of him is constantly played for laughs (albeit mostly in optional conversations). still, in the final boss fight, he gets much fatter (his stomach develops what i can only describe as boob physics) and it's portrayed as grotesque
This is a horror game that utilizes blood and gore in both cutscenes and combat sections. While the graphics quality makes it seem less realistic, it is still present and a major part of the story.
Main character's primary weapon is a handgun, with the ability to upgrade to other guns as the game progresses. Major characters load, aim/wave around, and fire guns as plot points.
