Technically (as far as I'm aware), there is no spitting shown on screen, but the player can encounter several spittoons over the course of the game. The descriptions get pretty horrifying later on as told by the appropriately-horrified narrator, but due to the nature of the game you can skip over all of that and just read the action prompts to get the equipment at the bottom.
