Thomas Magnum, a decorated former Navy SEAL who, upon returning home from Afghanistan, repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator in Hawaii taking jobs no one else will with the help of fellow vets T.C. Calvin and Rick Wright, and the former MI:6 agent Higgins.
This show isn’t as bad as other crime/mystery shows with copaganda, but there’s still plenty of it. The main character is not a cop, but there are major characters who are and that is a central part of their character.
Nearly every episode of this show involves the appearance of guns, and most of them include gunfights or another use of a gun by both good and bad guys.
The first episode features a character who is a father who dies. There is a scene where the main character comforts the son. In addition, a lot of the major characters have dead parents, though this is referenced and hinted at as past events and not shown on screen.
The main character (a private investigator) is often hired by people who want to know if their significant other is cheating; most of the time, the significant other IS cheating, because that adds to the storyline.
There’s dark parts to episodes, and some of them have cliffhangers or bittersweet endings (like, for example, they solve the mystery/catch the bad guy but a minor character dies/gets injured), but overall this show doesn’t have sad endings. Of course, that may change many years into the future - but the show’s ongoing and there’s no signs of a series finale coming soon, and even if there were, I doubt it would be a sad ending.
It’s not incredibly gore-y, but there are plenty of minor characters who are shot or stabbed or otherwise injured/murdered in a bloody way. In addition, the main character gets shot multiple times over the course of the show (blood is shown) and many major characters are shot or stabbed, too. So; not really gore, but a lot of blood.
