Jonathan Livingston Seagull
Movie • 1973
ReportJonathan is sick and tired of the boring life in his sea-gull clan. He rather experiments with new, always more daring flying techniques. Since he doesn't fit in, the elders expel him from the clan. So he sets out to discover the world beyond the horizon in quest for wisdom.

Fletcher is presumably a teenager in gull terms given that he has juvenile plumage in the movie. He dies from crashing into a cliff face but comes back to life.

Some bloody scenes - a few scenes of gulls fighting each other for food and having blood on their feathers, and one where Jonathan crashes into the sea and emerges bloodied. Nothing too excessive.

An unnamed gull uses the c-slur to refer to a young gull who cannot move one of his wings.

There is the sound of bones snapping when Fletcher crashes into the cliff face so presumably his bones are broken on impact, but he comes back to life uninjured.

Fletcher swerves as he dives from the air in order to avoid killing a young gull who was in his way - this resulted in him crashing into the cliff face and dying, but he comes back to life shortly after.

All gulls live outdoors, but gulls such as Jonathan and Fletcher are made outcasts and driven away from their flock, meaning they are technically homeless.

Not many, but some raised voices. Jonathan screams "Oh God, the flock!" when he loses control flying over the dump. Near the end where Jonathan brings Fletcher back to life, the elder gull of the flock screams "Kill him!" a few times.

Jonathan dies of old age after flying around the world, but returns to the living world to teach others about flying. Fletcher Lynd crashes into a cliff face and dies whilst diving in order to avoid a young gull, but also comes back to life.

Jonathan refers to himself jokingly as the son of the Great Gull which is presumably a god figure to gulls, but then asks Fletcher not to let other gulls make him into some sort of god.

Jonathan ascends to a higher plane of being and soon discovers that it isn't heaven or hell, and that he can return to the mortal world. This could be confusing for some.

During filming of Paramount's “Jonathan Livingston Seagull,” dozens of birds were reportedly killed by caustic bleaches and hair sprays, others were crippled by control cords, and some 88 suffered eye injuries.
