Young graduate student Jane Chase becomes the new assistant to an eccentric zoology professor at the remote home he shares with two brilliant chimpanzees and an elderly orangutan butler named Link. But when one of the chimps is found dead and the professor mysteriously disappears, Link becomes dangerously aggressive towards Jane. Now, the time for “monkey business” is over and the true terror is about to begin.
A feral dog attacks/chases a human character who is then saved by Link, who in turn kills the dog rather brutally. Once picked up, the dog is obviously a prop, but is smashed into a fence several times before being thrown on the ground lifeless.
In the US version this occurs at 0:47:41 and lasts about 10 seconds.
Very minor though, at least for the human victims. Almost all deaths happen off camera or the scene cuts before it gets gory, leaving it to the viewer's imagination with the exception of the various animal deaths.
Possibly. SPOILER one character is found dead in a well and another knocked in after. It's unclear if the first actually drowned in the well or was put there after being killed elsewhere, but it's presumed the second drowns (off camera).
Actual abuse is not shown on camera, but it's implied the Doctor uses abusive tactics to train and discipline the chimps. He does threaten one with a rifle and another with a stick.
2 out of the 3 "Chimps" (Link is actually an orangutan) are killed. The first is killed off camera but discovered in a closet later. The second is killed during the movie's finale falling into a fire, but unlike the previous animal deaths, it's not disturbing or graphic; the fire is all greenscreen and the animal falling looks like a still shot with no movement.
SPOILER with time stamp: When Jane is trying to find Imp's food and Imp is pointing to a cabinet, the other chimp's body falls out. It's briefly shown in close up having a head injury of unknown origin and then laying on the floor. More than anything it's the expression of the dead animal that makes this scene disturbing. Skip 0:44:46-0:45:18.
