In a prison for the criminally insane, deranged anthropologist Ethan Powell is set to be examined by a bright young psychiatrist, Theo Caulder. Driven by ambition and a hunger for the truth, Caulder will eventually risk everything -- even put his very life on the line -- in a harrowing attempt to understand the bizarre actions of this madman.
While I deeply appreciate that this movie is very profoundly pro-animal and anti-humanity, if you even slightly care about animals, it is your worst nightmare. I was NOT prepared. It starts with a muntjac deer ensnared and hung by its neck found in the jungle by Dr Powell and his gorilla family at 1:03. Then it’s gets SO MUCH WORSE at 1:35-1:40 (minus several seconds to provide full avoidance). The entire gorilla family is straight up viciously slaughtered by poachers. All while Dr Powell watches and fights in absolute soul crushing horror. It’s graphic and genuinely TRAUMATIZING AF.
