ReportSynopsis
In 1944, in South Pacific, the castaway Marine Corporal Allison drifts in a raft to the Tuasiva Island, where he meets Sister Angela. She tells him that she is the only person in the island and was left behind by the runaway boat to Fiji Island while seeking the local priest. Stranded in the island, but with water, fish and fruits, their paradisiacal life ends when the Japanese arrive to build a base, forcing Allison and the nun to hide in a cave. The crude marine provides the necessary supply for their survival and falls in love for the nun.

Mr. Allison gets very drunk one night and behaves frighteningly--telling Sister Angela how beautiful she is, that there's no point in her being a nun when they could be alone together on the island for years, that they're "like Adam and Eve." Sister Angela gets very upset and starts to cry; Allison goes to put his arms around her, and she runs away from him. He never does hurt her and he later apologizes for scaring her.

The word "rape" isn't used, but is alluded to a few times. 1. Sister Angela wants to turn herself in to the Japanese soldiers, insisting "the worst that could happen" would be her imprisonment "in a very safe place." Mr. Allison says "That's *not* the worst that could happen." 2. Allison gets drunk one night and makes several suggestive remarks to Sister Angela, upsetting her so much that she runs away from him. Later, he apologizes, saying "You don't have to be afraid of me, I would never hurt you," and "I was drunk, you got scared of me." She replies that she knows he wouldn't have "harmed" her.
