All of the non-human characters (Garfeld & Odee) are not actually animals and they’re just the actors in sort of mascot suits. Although, John mentions in “John’s Lament” that his childhood dog died because of him.
Garfeld, Odee, and Lizz think that when John tells them he put a special someone in a tray of lasagna, but it’s just Garfeld’s teddy bear named Pookie.
