The story of the film is based on a Nobel novel by Władysław Stanisław Reymont of the same title, showing life in the countryside at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. The dramaturgy of events is inscribed in the rhythm of changing seasons, seasonal fieldwork and rural customs. Against this background, the fate of the Boryn family and a young girl, Jagna, takes place.
