There are many non human characters in the game such as Yoshi, Shy Guy, and Koopa Troopa. You can fall off of the track which is kind of like losing a life in a video game, however before you fall to your death you are rescued by Lakitu and are alright and begin racing again.

It’s a kart racing game so of course there’d be car honking and tire screeching sound effects. There’s a button you can press to honk your horn and when drifting for a while tire screeching sounds can be heard. If needed you can play the game with sound off if you don’t want to hear the triggering sounds
