A character is called the Hanged Man and has been hanging in the town square for a very long time. This character is immortal though, and cannot die, so he is alive for the duration of the hanging. There is a song called "The Hanged Man Rusts" where he gives advice to the main characters while hanging. In the promotional tarot decks that were made, he is also depicted hanging.
