There are multiple births described in explicit detail and every single one of them would qualify as a traumatizing birth experience. There is a lot of poor medical advice given (good advice for 1918, but bad advice), there is a debilitating and now illegal operation that almost, but doesn’t, happen. None of these birth stories are peaceful and empowering. I can’t in good conscience recommend anyone who is pregnant or trying to conceive reads this book.
