After a police chase with an otherworldly being, a New York City cop is recruited as an agent in a top-secret organization established to monitor and police alien activity on Earth: the Men in Black. Agent Kay and new recruit Agent Jay find themselves in the middle of a deadly plot by an intergalactic terrorist who has arrived on Earth to assassinate two ambassadors from opposing galaxies.
This movie contains 42 potentially triggering events.
The villain is crashing all around inside his truck trying to open a container and when he finally gets it open and realizes that the contents isn’t what he was looking for, he gets very angry and shouts a lot. Not exactly a meltdown necessarily, but pretty close.
(small spoilers and I most likely got the line wrong)
in one scene, agent J says "when I was young, I used to play this game called catch, accept I threw the ball at a wall because he abandoned me"
I most likely got the line wrong but agent J was most likely abbandonded
Not really, but kind of. The owner of the cat is murdered and the cat refuses to leave his owner’s side, so the cat ends up basically dumped off at the morgue. The owner didn’t willingly abandon his cat, but the cat does kind of get ditched.
Not technically, but a man watches a woman, for personal emotional enjoyment because he misses her, through a surveilance system she doesn’t know about.
Even though there is no domestic violence seen on screen there's still a scene near the beginning of the movie that might be upsetting to domestic violence survivors. We overhear a man aggressively yelling at his wife and implying that he's hit her before and plans on hitting her again, however he's killed and eaten by an alien shortly after yelling at his wife and the scene was likely to set us up for not feeling bad that he was killed and eaten by an alien.
Humane Hollywood certified that no animals/insects were harmed in the making of the scenes. When they shake the pug around, for the more violent shaking, they used a cgi pug and for the closeup shots, the real life pug was placed in the actors hands.
There is a cat who is sought after by the villain and is in apparent danger but ends up unharmed. You see the villain grab the cat and remove the charm from the collar and then don’t see the cat again, so it’s assumed to be safe.
A giant alien wears a dead guy’s skin as a suit. The skin is misaligned and looks very unnatural, and as the movie progresses, it starts to look significantly worse for wear. The alien also stretches the skin on its face back really far, causing a woman to faint. The alien moves in a very disjointed way while wearing the human suit and is constantly having to snap its body parts back into place to move easier. Plus, the alien has cockroaches coming from somewhere under the human’s clothes that fall out and crawl around. I am pretty squeamish about disturbing horror stuff and I watch this movie on a very regular basis with no issues. It’s gross and I don’t love it, but i can handle it fine. Also, there is an alien whose human-like body is really a robotic vessel that is controlled by the tiny alien in the head. While the body is undergoing an autopsy, it’s stated that the majority of the internal organs are missing and then a character pulls on the earlobe and the the face opens up to reveal the alien inside.
Kay also shoots an alien’s head off. The alien is capable of regrowing his head, but says that it stings. We also see the alien’s head grow back, which might be a bit of a disturbing effect
The villain manually moves his limbs around in order to get from place to place and function and you hear a fair bit of crunching/cracking noises but the alien doesn’t have bones so none are broken. Kind of sounds like it though. In the Polish restaurant scene, a dead waiter is briefly shown sort of folded up in a very unnatural way and stuffed onto a shelf and later the medical examiner mentions that he’s been broken in half
No eye mutilation but the villain’s human skin suit starts to kind of decompose as the movie goes on, and this includes his eyes. They begin to turn cloudy and pale, but they’re not overly graphic and not dwelled upon.
K uses a knife to slit a man open but it turns out it’s an alien with a suit on, so he’s just cut the suit off. The villain has sharp quill-like things on some of its legs and uses them to stab 2 aliens in the neck. This is extremely brief and not graphic.
When J (Will Smith) is chasing down a perp in the beginning, he seems to lose the guy he’s chasing but then the guy pops up close to the camera and climbs up a wall. It’s definitely a jump scare, even after I’ve watched it 100 times
The Men in Black have carte blanche to operate as they please without accountability to anyone. They shoot and kill or maim aliens without warning or remorse. They do not hesitate to rough aliens up in interrogations. The end of credits rap, while fun, glorifies making keeping humans unaware of what’s going on and being able to do what they want. It’s basically “thin blue line” ideology before it was called that.
Not exactly a needle or syringe, but the exterminator has a long slim wand that dispenses the insecticide and he is killed with it. Also, the villain kills 2 aliens by sticking very thin quill-type things that are on its legs through their necks. They’re not exactly needles but it could be similar enough to squick someone out
Yes, however it’s all alien and very otherwordly. A very very slight amount of blood is shown on a sheet at the mourge, but it’s just two faint splatters.
The only gun violence that is shown onscreen is by alien weapons. The villain has a gun and shoots a man and steals his gun, but this is offscreen and all you hear is a gunshot. No body is shown.
