The Atreides have one of their children put his hand in a box that simulates intense amounts of pain. I believe this counts as abuse as well as torture.

There's a scene where Paul and (his mother) Jessica are sheltering in a tent. Paul has a vision of the future that distresses him. Jessica reaches out to comfort him, but Paul SCREAMS at her to get away from him, leaving her shocked and almost cowering.

Only tangentially. Jessica is a member of an order that manipulates people from the shadows. This frustrates both her partner and their son to not be told the whole truth and not always know when they're being manipulated. I did not notice any overt/textbook gaslighting where she responds to a character's concerns by causing them to feel that their mind is unreliable.

Yes, but no visuals except a character holding up a fake tooth that has yet to be inserted. (SPOILERY DETAILS: Out of nowhere, an incapacitated character is approached by a doctor and told that he will immediately have a tooth extracted and replaced with a fake which contains poison gas. The doctor holds up the fake tooth, and then the scene ends. Several scenes later, the character bites down hard to spring the trap, and the sound effect is, I would say moderate. Not loud or gruesome, but very solid and very...toothy sounding.)

Typical Dune orientalism and white savior narrative, leans heavily on MENA culture for its world but has no MENA actors. Almost every POC dies. Harkonnen’s predatory nature is toned down but there’s still a scene where he has a male prisoner stripped and it’s implied this was for his pleasure so he’s still the predatory gay trope. You could also argue that they erased his sexuality aside from this scene but it’s debatable since he only ever expresses his sexuality predatorily in the book and Lynch film. Harkonnen is also a fatphobic portrayal, his weight conflated with his eating and grotesque nature and the actor wearing a fat suit to portray him.

There are recurring shots of a knife covered in blood and dripping, and of a hand covered in blood and dripping. Early in the movie there is a shot of dead bodies with faint traces of stale blood around them. Overall there is no real gore scene, and whenever a sword kills someone the camera moves away.
