At one point a father berates his daughter for not being like her older brother, and tries to make her “prove herself” by finding an important item… and sends her away from where he knows she must go to find said item. Also the said older brother was neglected and forced to leave his home by his father.
Parents are turned into stone early in the game, but this is later reversed. The mother of one of the main characters is said to have died, but this is not shown.
A character believes their friend has been turned into a cat and bring the cat to a sorcerer to undo the magic. The sorcerer cheats the character out of their money and takes the cat, but it is later revealed that that cat wasn't the character's friend at all.
A major character lashes out verbally and later physically, but it is debatable how much of this is caused by what. By the time said character is physically violent it’s more or less confirmed they’re under possession, but before that they could be lashing out because of PTSD, survivor’s guilt, familial neglect, or from being a victim of gaslighting.
No, but there is concept art of two of the male player characters dressing up and one is wearing a dress, while behind him a female character is trying not to laugh.
Multiple enemy monsters are dragons, and a few are bosses that must be killed in order to progress throughout the game. *SPOILER* Before the events of the game an important dragon character died/was killed by injuries. The dragon's surviving human friend significantly mourns their loss. The player characters' dragon does not and cannot die though.
*SPOILER* After defeating the final boss the player must race back to the surface before rocks collapse over them (there is a time limit) and the screen shakes up and down while this is happening.
Characters are buried when they fall into quicksand, and to progress through the game this is required. None of it is fatal though. Characters may also fall into lava, but this is avoidable and not a permanent death (as per usual with video games).
Many children in the city of Urbeth are starving and sick. Some are shown dead or to be dying. One character loses his daughter when he doesn't have enough money to for her medicine *SPOILER* but this is later reversed.
Any time a character chooses to rest at an inn they are healed of any status ailments, etc. Sometimes other characters imply the "hospital-likeness" of this, but the inns are rather homey and cozy.
At a certain (unavoidable) point in the game one of the player characters is turned into a cat and will be "killed" by a boss. There is no way to defeat the boss/survive, but a friend of the character will sacrifice themselves to bring said character back to life. Another character can also be turned into a cat later; both can die in normal (non permanent) battles. None of it is graphic.
Outside of the already mentioned mostly avoidable animal "deaths" there is no abuse or violence against animals. In fact a village is noted to be especially fond and friendly to their sheep, a character loves and seems to take good care of her pet cat, the player characters are fond of their dragon, and the the game awards players for talking to every single animal in the game.
