the main character does get violent but its never depicted as being because of his mental illness. he just gets roped into a spiderweb of crime and has to fight back. generally hes a pretty mellow and chill person. more glaringly though theres a character who goes completely manic after a mental breakdown related to his gambling addiction. he gets better though
