Version 3.0 has this as a scripted death for two NPCs. The oni basically bites an NPC's head off. Later, you find a bigger oni actively crushing a body beneath its fists. As you revisit the areas later in the game, the bodies remain there. For the specific times it happens [[[SPOILERS]]]: The biting happens immediately after the four in the basement finish talking, and the crushing happens after you find the source of a THUD THUD noise after waking up from a dream.

Unlike most games, falling to death isn't even a way you can die, though it's important to note that there are sections where you can fall through a hole in the floor and land safely in the room below in order to progress.

The oni will appear rather suddenly at both scripted times and random intervals. In some scripted events, this can be rather startling. In Version 6.23, there is a mandatory stealth mechanic where you hide in closets to avoid the oni. Sometimes the oni will open the closet, and this will result in a 1st person perspective of the oni suddenly opening the closet. The only sound accompanying the closet is the sound of the door opening. Also there are mild jumpscares in the endings of Versions 5.2 and 6.23.

There are scenes involving jail cells inexplicably placed within the mansion, and in each version there is a scene in which your character is trapped on one side of the bars and the monster is trying to break in on the other side. This is depicted via first person. All the characters, however, are never locked behind bars, and can open the doors whenever.

Every version has a scene where you find a friendly character hiding in a closet who is shivering, speechless, and inconsolable. Each character who is like this is shown to recover. In the good end of Version 5.2, a character is constantly skipping school due to constant nightmares and panic attacks.

Each version of the game has an iconic scene where you have to lock yourself in a little prison cell to avoid getting killed by the oni. A 1st person perspective cutscene will play where the oni will stare at you, grab the jail bars, and shake them violently before giving up and leaving.

Version 5.2 has a section where the lights flicker briefly before going out. Version 5.2 and 6.23 have windowed areas where you can hear it raining. At very spaced out intervals, lightning will flash, followed by thunder. Not nearly at a strong enough interval for epilepsy to be a concern.

In version 3.0, a character is found crushed to death. There is a pool of blood where that character was killed. In other versions, there is a glass door where a figure passes by. If you continuously try to open the glass door while it's locked, you will eventually get in but then die. Blood will cover the glass door. It's easily avoidable by not trying to do that. Version 6.23's South Park mode has South Park-esque gore
