This film is based on a true story in which 86 schoolchildren were accidentally killed by RAF pilots who mistook their school for a N**i military base. Their names are listed in the credits.
We also get to know two of the (fictionalized) children who die. After the bombing, a little girl named Rigmor is trapped in the basement with her classmates. When the basement collapses killing most of them, Rigmor and a nun survive for a few minutes. However, water from the firehoses floods the basement, and Rigmor, pinned down by an iron bar, drowns. We do not see any of this and only hear Rigmor's voice in the darkness talking to the nun.
Another little girl named Greta is also in the basement when it collapses and likely does not survive.
