Various in game enemies can be killed by being stomped on, falling off a cliff, getting attacked with a power up, and other methods, which could be considered to be animal abuse. Many levels don’t involve killing enemies though

I’m not sure why someone said yes. There aren’t any cats in this game, however there is a Cat Suit power up in the game and it is possible to die when wearing this power up, however actual cats don’t die

As this is Mario Maker where people make custom levels, not every level is going to require attacking enemies and levels containing these can be avoided. However it is indeed possible to kill animal like enemies in this game, though many enemies don’t really resemble real life animals too much. Some are based off of real animals but are very different from them

Bowser is somewhat dragon like and he can be added as a boss in a level, and him being a boss would require you to “kill” him. However not every level is going to have Bowser in it, thus meaning you won’t always have to kill him.

Enemies like Wigglers (caterpillar like creatures) and Stingbys (bee like creatures) are in the game. Including them in levels is optional and I hardly ever see Stingbys used. Wigglers are clearly made to be cutesy and aren’t necessarily scary like how real caterpillars can be. But they still may trigger people with bug phobias
