There's a dog who keeps the disabled man company. In episode 4 the man jumps into the water to rescue a girl who has fallen in and the dog jumps after him. We do not see the dog hit the ground below but at around 17 mins into the episode, after the man and the girl are out of the water, there is a two second shot of the dog with blood on his coat. The man screams and cries. After this shot the camera cuts to the girl's stunned reaction and then back to the man crying and there's another shot of the blood on the dog......That makes two shots of the dead dog. You can look away or skip that part if you are able to deal with just the crying of the man. Later it's mentioned briefly when the girl talks to her parents. In episode 5 it's mentioned again when they talk to the police.
- It is important you know that I stopped watching this series the moment a small dog resembling my own gets taken by the disabled man. I genuinely don't know what happened after the small brown and black dog comes on the screen in episode 5-
There's only one bit in episode 3 near the end, which is short, skip-able and not integral to the story. I'm not keen on how someone impresses the locals by dangling a snake in front of the dog. A guy stops him. It only lasts a few seconds and the dog isn't harmed, just barks a lot. You can easily look away from the screen.
It's never addressed as such but at the start there's a mentally and physically disabled man who corners a teenager and gets close to her, touching her hair, smelling her, stuff like that. She asks him to stop but he doesn't. The girl's mum finds them and the girl talks it off claiming that she knows the man from camp. It makes for uncomfortable viewing for about fifteen seconds. ( SPOILER AHEAD: It turns out he wasn't being 'pervy' he recognised a necklace from somewhere. Later in the story it's revealed why. )
Later it is revealed that someone has a criminal record for sexual assault but the case was dismissed.
5+ incidents. A dog dies after jumping from a high cliff.
Then in episode 4 at around 40 minutes in, there is a dead bird left as a kind of threat from someone who practices witchcraft. It's skippable and you can see it coming and look away. The bird on the pillow comes when the woman gets home and starts shouting in her house, asking if her daughter is back yet.
Then at around 43 minutes in a girl follows someone and finds a group of dead birds hanging from what looks like a tree. Then there's another group of dead birds strung up outside a different person's house. THEN the camera flashes back to the past and there's yet another character confronted by a group of dead birds hung up like some kind of threat. (The 'murders' of crows are less graphic than the solo crow on the pillow. You can look away when the girl in the yellow t-shirt and a sling walks after the man )
To summerise there's the dog, the crow on the pillow, the crows on the tree, the crows outside someone's home and the crows outside another person's home. THEN a girl gets home and the camera focuses on the birds as they discuss their meaning.
Christ there's more! (I'm writing this as I go along watching it.) In episode 5 there's shots of the birds around 5 mins in and the police are inspecting them.
...Lotta dead birds.
Someone is found with a gunshot to the head, holding a gun. It's unclear if he did it himself as in the next shot there's noise from the next room and movement from the door.
There's no section for 'Is there racism' which is annoying. There's a bit where a family doesn't approve of a wife because of her being (I believe) Italian.
Spoilers ahead... It's possible someone cheats as there's an unexplained baby with a character... but the person denies they are cheating. It could have happened in the past. Later someone sends a picture of a baby to someone and it says "If I die, who will take care of him?" Accusing the character of being the father.
One snake that's apparently native to the island and not poisonous - it's held by a disabled man and dangled in front of a dog. It's possible to look away or skip ahead as it's short and not important to the story. Later, the snake gets released by the girl and we hear it slither off into some bushes.
I'm very very anxious about paranormal things and ghosts and would drop a show in seconds after a ghost jumpscare..so trust me when I say this is tame.
- Ok, it's never a 'scary' ghost:
-The first time It's not technically a ghost and does not appear as one either. It's just a guy claiming to see someone who's dead on the day before they die and it's also not shown.
-The second time someone sees a dead relative standing at the side of the road. They pull over, get out of the car and the relative fades from view - the image of her vanishes bit by bit - again it's not scary or sudden. The relative doesn't look 'dead' either.
- The third time someone appears in a mirror after a shower scene. It's never a jumpscare..like, there's never a scary looking girl with long black hair and rotting flesh like 'The Ring'! It's just an image of a person that slowly appears on the mirror smiling, not scary or sudden. Just there, and beckoning for the character to look behind the mirror. Gentle fades..nothing sudden or 'dead' looking.
There is a man with some kind of learning and physical disability which could be severe autism or something else. He sort of 'appears' in an abandoned building and he gets hit a lot by the guy who's 'hired' him to take care of the house. Later kids from town are mean to him and they're silenced when someone pulls up in a car and shouts at them. They say their just 'poking fun at him'. There's more abuse when he's late for work and a woman yells at him, but it's not specifically because he's disabled this time. Later his mother beats him with a stick. There's a scene at the end of the episode of the his back covered in blood as he tries to wash it. In episode 5 there's a flashback of someone hitting him - it only lasts for a second.
